This week, I basically only was working on making the electronics for my arcade machine. On Tuesday, I got an old computer from the programming shop. The computer is really old and didn't work at all when I tried to boot it up. With the help of Joao Luis Paizante, I was able to get the computer to start actually running. I had to install a new operating system, which proved to be far more challenging than it should have been. I kept trying to flash a copy of Linux Mint onto a thumb drive and SD card, but for some reason, both kept failing. I am probably going to be using Linux, since it is free, and Windows is, legally speaking, not free. With the help of Mr. Christy, one of my shop teachers, he was able to get a copy of Linux on a thumb drive. I wasn't here on Thursday, so I am going to have to install the new operating system today, and see how I can go about getting a copy of Nate Ball, my video game, onto Linux. The game was built on a Windows computer, so I can't get a file for it on Linux directly, since Windows files are not compatible with Linux files I think. I might have to re import the whole unity project onto a copy of Unity on Linux, and then build the game from there, or if my .exe file for Nate Ball is be able to run on Linux, then I will just use that, and not really need to do any of that other stuff. After I am done with all the software I need, I plan on taking apart the computer's case so I can decrease the size of the electronics, and also decrease the weight, since the wood I am going to be using will be kinda heavy as well. I will also need to code on a Raspberry Pi Pico for the arcade machine buttons, so that the buttons might translate to certain keys that the players need to play the game, such as wasd, and the arrow keys. I will need the help of Joao Luis Paizante for this, since he made a similar project a few months ago.
